Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is planet-hopping to PlayStation 5
The next entry in the Ratchet & Clank series is coming to PlayStation 5, and it’s looking like it’s taking full advantage of the console’s solid-state drive.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will find the duo hopping between planets and dimensions to stop an invading threat. Not only does it look amazing in the graphical department, but the trailer also shows off the different ways that interdimensional travel will work in terms of gameplay, with an adrenaline-pumping sequence that shows the pair riding a giant frog in prehistoric times, jumping through a portal and sliding down the side of a futuristic skyscraper, before teleporting to another world and ending up on the back of a dinosaur.
Beyond that, the series’ patented gadget-based gameplay is on display, with third-person action sequences that involve environmental destruction and a lot of explosions. The end of the trailer features a new character that seems to be of the same species as Ratchet. In fact, maybe it is a parallel version of Ratchet.
No release date has been set, but the game is exclusive to PlayStation 5. With one Insomniac game already announced for this holiday season in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we’re expecting that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will show up sometime in 2021.
