Need for Speed Heat’s final update adds cross-platform play
Criterion, the new developer of the Need for Speed series, has announced that it will be adding cross-platform play support to Need for Speed Heat tomorrow, June 9th.
Following tomorrow’s update, players will be given the option to enable cross-play and after opting in can race against players on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Players will also be able to invite friends from other platforms to a party via the new EA Friends tab located in the Party Menu. An icon next to each player’s name will show which platform they are on.
Tomorrow’s update also improves cop car logic, reduces the occurrence of the DR1005 error, makes it so AI drivers stick to the racing line, and more. Read the full patch notes here.
“As we at Criterion shift gears into the future with full focus on developing the next Need for Speed game, this will be the final update for Need for Speed Heat. Since the launch of Need for Speed Heat and as players continue to tear it up in Palm City, we’re listening to what you love about this experience, and what you all believe could be even better,” Criterion Games’ Matt Webster added in a blog post. “With these insights, we have a terrific foundation to create the most expressive, most socially connected, action-packed game yet for Need for Speed fans and beyond.”
Finally, Webster announced that Need for Speed Heat is joining the EA Access and Origin Access Basic Vaults on June 16th.
