Microsoft and Ubisoft planning digital events following E3 cancellation
Following yesterday’s official cancellation of E3 2020, both Microsoft and Ubisoft have announced plans to hold digital events.
In a tweet, head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that there will be an Xbox digital event to celebrate the next generation of gaming. Details regarding the timing of the event will be shared “in the coming weeks.”
Ubisoft also responded to the cancellation on Twitter. In a message, the publisher revealed that it is “exploring other options for a digital experience that will allow us to share all the exciting news we have planned.” More information will be shared at a later date.
Yesterday, the Entertainment Software Association announced that E3 2020 has officially been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. The ESA is currently looking into holding an online experience in June 2020 instead.
“Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation,” a statement from the ESA read. “We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.”
