Overwatch update adds Sigma and Role Queue system
Blizzard has pushed a new update live for Overwatch on all platforms that introduces a new hero and the previously announced Role Queue system.
The newest addition to the roster, Sigma, is described as “an eccentric astrophysicist and volatile tank who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong.” Watch a new trailer for the character below:
Sigma has access to Hyperspheres, which unleashes two gravity balls that bounce off walls and explode, and an Experimental Barrier that can be deployed to a set location. His other abilities include Kinectic Grasp, which lets him freeze incoming projectiles and turn them into shields, and Accretion, which flings a mass of debris at an enemy and knocks them down. Finally, Sigma’s ultimate ability is Gravitic Flux, which lifts all enemies in a targeted area before slamming them back down.
In addition to Sigma, today’s update adds the Role Queue to the game. This new system is live in Competitive Play and Quick Play and requires players to choose either the tank, damage, or support role before queuing for a match. The matchmaking system will then match two tanks, two supports, and two damage to create a team, and players can then select a character from their chosen role. At the end of the game, all players will be returned to the menu to select their role again before queuing.
