It’s official: Elden Ring has gone gold
FromSoftware’s long-awaited next game, Elden Ring, has gone gold, according to a recent interview with one of its producers.
In a new interview translated from Japanese that aired during the 2022 Taipei Game Show (via IGN), FromSoftware’s Yasuhiro Kitao stated that Elden Ring “will be ready for sale on February 25th” as “the master version has already been submitted.” Kitao went on to say that the development team is currently working on a day-one patch.
While we already know a fair bit about Elden Ring, thanks to last year’s network testing, Kitao gave a few more morsels of information about the game in the interview. Kitao stated that players can complete the game in 30 hours, though there are “many dozens” of hours of side content to enjoy, too. Like previous FromSoftware games, Elden Ring will also feature New Game Plus, so players can take their leveled-up characters into a new game with more powerful enemies.
In terms of storytelling, Kitao said that Elden Ring will dive into the finer details of Elden Ring‘s narrative with the “flavor text” in item descriptions, with there being more items than in previous FromSoftware titles. Likewise, even more NPCs will fill the world and provide perspectives on “the state of the world as they see it.”
As for Elden Ring‘s approach to map design, it’s the first FromSoftware game that uses an “open field” design, as Kitao calls it. Though the play area is vast, the “sprawling open areas are also replete with danger around every corner with a relatively high battle encounter rate.”
Best of all, the interview includes new snippets of gameplay, featuring a few locations and weapons we haven’t seen in previous demos.
Elden Ring launches February 25th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
