Capcom celebrates Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary with three big announcements
Today marks the 25th anniversary since the release of the first Resident Evil, and Capcom is celebrating with a trio of new announcements about the series.
First up is the news that Capcom will stream another Resident Evil Showcase sometime in April. There’s no date yet, nor any details on what to expect. Still, judging by the timing, it’s a safe bet that we’ll get one last in-depth look at Resident Evil Village before the game launches in May.
We may also get a hint at what Capcom has planned for the series after Village. The last Showcase, from January, included plenty of info on Village, but it also confirmed a crossover with The Division 2, teased the Netflix animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and announced Resident Evil Re:Verse, the multiplayer experience that will come bundled with Village.
Speaking of Re:Verse, Capcom’s second anniversary announcement is an open beta for that game. The trial will run from April 7th through 11th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam. You’ll be able to preload the beta starting April 5th, and Capcom recommends registering for a Capcom ID if you haven’t already, so you’ll be able to hop in once it’s available.
If you missed the original announcement, Resident Evil Re:Verse mashes up characters and locations from throughout the series’ history in a competitive shooter. You’ll even be able to transform into iconic villains like Jack Baker and Nemesis to lay some extra virus-fueled hurt on your opponents.
Finally, Capcom revealed that two games from the series will be coming to Google Stadia. First, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition will arrive on the streaming platform April 1st, both as a standalone purchase and through the Stadia Pro subscription service. Next, Resident Evil Village will be available to purchase the same day it launches on other platforms.
Resident Evil Village will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and now Google Stadia on May 7th.
