Latest PS5 firmware update brings more stability, major bug fix for disc-based games
PlayStation 5 system software update 20.02-02.50.00 is now live, and while it was almost just a boring “stability update,” it does bring one very welcome bug fix.
According to the patch notes, update 20.02-02.50.00 resolves the issue where “the PS4 version of the game was sometimes installed from the PS4 game disc even after upgrading the disc version of a PS4 game to the PS5 version.”
Which means, basically, if you’ve got a physical copy of a PlayStation 4 game that got a next-gen upgrade, your PlayStation 5 will now properly install that next-gen version. When the PS5 launched, it had some issues properly differentiating between two generational versions of the same game, so it’s nice to see Sony get more of those issues ironed out.
Beyond that, you can also enjoy some “improve[d] system performance” on your console!
