Cyberpunk 2077 delayed into December
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red recently announced on Twitter that the highly anticipated RPG is once again delayed.
The new release date is December 10th, which is three weeks after its previous November 19th release date, which was two months later than its previously previous release date of September 17th, which was about 5 months later than it’s previously previously previous release date of April. There was maybe a February date in there at some point, too.
Despite the game recently going gold, CDPR higher-ups said in a statement that that means “the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar.” In other words, developers are continuing to crunch to work on the Day 0 patch, even as copies of the game are being printed onto discs.
They also attributed the delay to having to test nine different versions of the game, including for Google Stadia and compatibility with next-gen consoles.
What’s still unclear is the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 on next-gen platforms. While the current-gen versions should be backward compatible on next-gen hardware, it’s possible that the decision to delay was also made to get all versions of the game out at the same time.
